What’s it all about?
There are a positive glut of social networking sites from generic meeting places like Facebook and MySpace to networks with a purpose like YouTube and Twitter right through to the bizarre end of the niche scale (think Hoffspace).
Each one brings with it its own unique demographic and a number of ways to work with it, but it’s imperative that these networks be treated with respect and discretion, as its audience is very savvy and increasingly impatient when it comes to overt advertising.
What’s on offer
You can use the tools within social networks, or their inherent makeup to help spread your message. For example, Facebook allows you to advertise to a very narrow audience to ensure you get the best ROI possible and end up with a cost-effective campaign.
Rather than trying to target one specific network and build your campaign around it, you might find more success by thinking about your message and trying to find different ways to spread it, either through sharing of links on social bookmarking sites, writing guest posts on others’ blogs or taking part in forums. There are loads more options available, so if you that whet your appetite, get in touch and we’ll talk more.
